Bespoke Fitted Hinged Doors or Sliding Doors? – You Decide

Fitted wardrobes, whether sliding or hinged, are built floor to ceiling and in most situations, wall to wall depending on your design preference.

Both sliding door wardrobes and hinged door wardrobes are made-to-measure so they can fit perfectly into any space. With both wardrobe options, you can choose from a number of interior storage options to accessorize with, including; long and short hanging spaces, shoe-racks, tie-racks, trouser rails, drawers, shelves and more – all customized to your requirements.
Fitted Sliding Wardrobe Doors

Hinged Door Wardrobes

The depth for hinged wardrobes is typically 100mm less than sliding doors as there is no slider track.

Hinged wardrobe doors also swing open so, although the overall depth of the wardrobe is less than a standard sliding wardrobe, you usually require more space to take account of the doors swinging outwards.

An average hinged door usually has a maximum width of around 600mm, this is so that there isn’t an overbearing amount of weight on the hinges when they open.

With genuine bespoke fitted furniture there are no standard door sizes - so hinged doors could be cut to size and manufactured to any size you desire.

Sliding Door Wardrobes

Opposing to hinged door wardrobes, sliding doors don't require additional space for doors to “open-up” into the room. These doors slide from left to right and vice versa.

The standard depth of a fitted sliding wardrobe doors is around 650mm, the extra 50mm space for the running track for the sliding doors. This additional depth also allows for enough space so that the clothes are not caught by the doors.

With fitted sliding wardrobes you have the option of going for bigger doors and much larger mirrors. Sliding doors can be made to whatever width you like, with a choice of mirror, panel, sculptured, frosted or colour glass.

With Metro Wardrobes, there are no standard door sizes - our door sizes are totally adjustable and precisely made to fit your space.

We own one of the biggest fitted furniture showrooms and in-house factory in the UK, manufacturing hundreds of stunning hinged doors and sliding doors on a weekly basis. All our fittings, accessories and boards are of the highest German quality and all come with a 10-year guarantee.

The best way to help make the decision between hinged door wardrobes and sliding door wardrobes is to have one of our professional designers visit your home and measure up. They will offer you free, no obligation, expert advice to make your bedroom look beautiful.

Open Fitted Kitchens – Effortlessly Complementing Living Rooms

Bespoke fitted kitchens are considered the beating hearts of their homes. When built to open into the living and dining rooms, a fitted kitchen allows you to enjoy the company of your loved ones, even while preparing meals.

Contemporary cuisine is an open space with a representative character. Conducive to social gatherings, but also warm, cosy, and familiar. Its arrangement should, therefore, depend on the décor of the entire day zone, and fitted furniture as elegant as those in the bespoke living room. That is why it is important to choose a uniform style for the entire day zone, based on both materials and bespoke finishing details.

We obtain stylistic coherence between the fitted kitchen and the living room thanks to the use of similar finishing materials. We can choose not only a furniture board or wood but also architectural concrete, ceramics, steel or melamine. In traditional kitchens ideally suited to wood (this year, manufacturers of kitchen furniture put on the oak). A fashionable matte finish will emphasize its natural drawing, introducing a large dose of heat into the interior. At the same time, it will help to build a family-friendly atmosphere conducive to contact with relatives, but also the luxurious character of the entire arrangement. In modern fitted kitchens, we focus on more sophisticated finishing materials: concrete or stone and bold but not flashy colours - matt gold, navy blue or green are a must have space of a somewhat avant-garde character.

According to the principle - ‘the less is more’, everything in the modern kitchen open to the living room should be carefully hidden so that everyday kitchen accessories are not obvious and do not disturb during relaxation or socializing. High-rise bespoke units will come with help. Not only will it house household appliances and many carcasses, but also, thanks to modern sliding systems, it will shadow the dish-washing zone or the preparation of meals. In addition, it does not determine the décor of space but is a subtle background for the whole. That is why the most often bespoke high-rise units of fitted kitchen furniture are completed by the island, which additionally marks the boundary between the two spaces. The appearance of the island itself should correspond with the fitted furniture pieces in the living room so that it visually does not stand out from the chests of drawers or sites, but stylistically bonded both spaces.

According to the latest trends, the kitchen will take on a salon character also thanks to the open shelves and glazing typical of the sites or racks dedicated to the living space. However, they do not serve for storing utensils or food, but for displaying favorite items: elegant porcelain, stylish glass or even culinary souvenirs from travel. They are also perfect for the display of flower arrangements or herbs that we can always use when cooking together.
